Intel will pay $1,250 million (834 million) to its rival, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
Under the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights through a new cross-licensing agreement for five years
The two multinationals stated, in a joint statement, that the arrangement ends the legal battle between the two micro-chip makers, including cases relating to patent and antitrust claims. "Although relations between the two companies have been difficult in the past, this agreement ends legal disputes and allows both companies to focus all its efforts on innovation and their development of products," explained the two giants of the sector.
Under the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights through a new cross-licensing agreement for five years. Also, Intel and AMD agreed to abandon any claims relating to the break-up of his previous license agreement.
AMD shares shot up 24% at the opening of the New York Stock Exchange after hearing the agreement between the two technology firms, while shares of Intel shares dropped 0.40%.
