He said, for now, the right thing is "discretion" and to "leave the work" for the experts to get an early release.

Carod said that there was "no news" on the issue, although the authorities are taking "every possible" step, including diplomatic missions in the country of France and the United States.

The three aid workers from the Solidarity Group Acció Solidària Barcelona, Roque Pascual, Isabel Gámez and Albert Vilalta, have been held hostage since last week, after their vehicle was intercepted. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, although diplomatic sources pointed out the possibility that members were close to Al-Qaeda.

The Technical Committee on the kidnapping made this statement this morning. The Foreign Ministry states that the committee staff is in contact with the families of the hostages.

Albert Vilalta, Roque Pascual and Alicia Gamez were kidnapped in the road between Nouadhibou and Nouakchott, Mauritania's two major cities, as they were in a convoy of thirteen vehicles carrying relief supplies bound for Dakar, Senegal's capital, last Sunday, November 29th
