School holidays begin on the 21st of June. The students are away from school until the 12th of September. Are these three months of school summer holidays excessive? Everyone has a different opinion. The teachers say “no” and they stress that the children are not on holiday for three months: that in fact they begin to prepare for classes during July, and on the 3rd September they will be organizing their first lessons. Families however, consider the holidays too long.

But what happens in the rest of Spain and Europe? Summer holidays are practically the same in length in the 17 autonomous communities. And the Catalan and Spanish schools come off well when compared to holidays in other European countries, according to the ‘Organization of School Time’ study which the European Commission has just published.
