Catalan parties avoid accusing the Generalitat for blackout
Affected residents and businesses couldn’t get information

With 10,000 families still using candles Wednesday evening, Catalan political parties set out to hunt down those responsible for Barcelona´s big blackout, which continued for three days. Everyone agreed that Fesca-Endesa was to blame for the situation... but Convergència and Unió and Esquerra Republicana went as far as to blame the central Spanish Government for “a lack of control” over electrical companies. Everyone avoided criticizing the Generalitat.

While the parties look for who was at fault, the discomfort of the affected people was obvious. “We have been working in precarious conditions, without telephones or computers” said Susana Gómez, head of one of the Expofincas offices which has spent 60 hours without light. “The worst is the lack of information; we have been calling the 900 line but it is always busy” said Susana Capdivela, who has spent three days eating out with her family. The head of Bar la Queixalada in Marcelino claims to have lost at least 3,000 euros in goods: “Now they are giving us light, but I am sure that it will cut out again”. Everyone is asking themselves who will pay for this.
