Don't be cold this summer: Campaign to save energy with air conditioning systems and to avoid the release of 63,540 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere | Under the slogan "Don't be cold this summer", the Department of Economy and Finance is launching an awareness campaign to encourage the responsible use of air conditioning units. The aim is that the thermostat is always set at a temperature which will be comfortable and which, at the same time, will save energy and recommends that thermostats are adjusted to 25ºC.
The aim of this initiative is to avoid air conditioning units being adjusted to excessively cold temperatures during the summer months. For example, a family can save 95,2 euros on the electricity bill when an air conditioning unit, programmed at 19ºC, is adjusted to 25ºC. This way, energy consumption is reduced from 1,600 kWh to 900 kWh in three months. With the adjustment of air conditioning units in the domestic and service sector, Catalonia could save up to 1.1% of electrical consumption in these areas, which would prevent the release of 63,540.3 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The campaign is also aimed at companies in the service sector in the hope that they will join the campaign and commit themselves to adjusting their air conditioning systems to the recommended maximum and minimum temperatures. The Generalitat de Catalunya will set an example and will adjust thermostats in all its buildings to 25ºC.
