AVE train crisis in Barcelona causes suspension of works | Work on the Madrid-Barcelona AVE high-speed train link was suspended yesterday morning, after when a 10- meter long train platform in the Barcelona Station of Bellvitge collapsed.

The accident did not cause personal harm due to the fact that, since last Monday, the train service has been cut in the zone due to the appearance of a series of holes in the last kilometer of track of the Barcelona AVE at its entrance to the Bellvitge station, which was also temporarily closed.

Yesterday’s incident follows another scare last Thursday, when cracks appeared in a Barcelona metro subway station due to the construction of the AVE station in Sants, an intersection where the AVE tunnel passes very closely underground to the current metro and railway tunnels.
