Partido Popular in Catalonia sever communications with Catalan Socialists

The president of the Partido Popular de Catalunya (PPC), Josep Piqué, has announced that he is to cut all channels of communication with the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC) because their campaign on the new statute of autonomy for Catalonia, in his opinion, ‘oversteps the limits of political decency.’

The announcement came about after the Partido Popular (PP) had earlier announced it was to take the PSC to court over the theme used by the party in pre-campaign advertising. The have complained that the slogan being used in the campaign - ‘El PP utilizará tu no contra Cataluña’ (the PP will use your no against Catalonia) - is ‘converting the PP into an enemy of Catalonia.’

Making his decision known whilst speaking in the Catalan parliament, Piqué explained that it was necessary to provide ‘a blunt response’ to the PSC’s campaign.

‘Agitating territorial and emotional confrontation through political means, fracturing Spanish and Catalan societies, is a major irresponsibility and demonstrates political immorality,’ underlined a visibly perturbed Piqué.

What a shame! I'll bet bet the PSC will be shaking in their boots now. What next? "You're not coming to my birthday party!"
