Sarajevo PM speaks of the ‘start of a new relationship between Catalonia and Sarajevo’
Barcelona, 09-06-2006The visit to Barcelona of Denis Zvizdic, prime minister of the Canton of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), comes to an end today. He has spent four days in the Catalan capital during which new foundations were laid ‘to establish a new relationship between Catalonia and Sarajevo,’ he says.
Zvizdic was appreciative of the solidarity that Barcelona and Catalonia demonstrated during and after the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ten years after, Sarajevo begins a new relationship with Catalonia that will ‘help both peoples mutually promote one another and quickly bring Bosnia and Herzegovina to the great family of the European Union,’ the prime minister said.
During the course of the week, both the visiting prime minister and his delegation held meetings with the president of the Catalan parliament; Generalitat de Catalunya ministers at the government offices of the presidency, education, the environment and housing; the mayor of Barcelona; the president of the ‘Associació Catalana de Municipis’ (the Catalan Municipalities and Regions Association); the head of the Institut Ramon Llull; and the chancellors of the Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
The PM also met with representatives from the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce; the Catalonian employers' organisation, Foment del Treball; PIMEC; and the Associació Catalana d’Agències de Viatges (the association representing travel agencies in Catalonia).
