Workers at Nissan’s factory in Barcelona will start 2010 with secured workloads for all staff.

Workers at Nissan's factory in Barcelona will start 2010 with secured workloads for all staff.

This has come about due to the slight recovery in demand for commercial vehicles in the market, so that the direction of the multinational is expected to waive the Record Regulation of Employment (ERE) temporary pact with unions.

The company in Barcelona that produce the X-83 and the new NV200, will not apply the one-day strike planned at least in the first quarter, sources confirmed to Europa Press, who stressed that as early as December 2009 there was need for the ERE.

Nissan’s ERE was implemented in October and it was in effect to the end of March 2010 affecting a maximum of 1,894 of the 2,800-worker plant in Montcada i Zona Franca (Barcelona) - at the rate of unemployment for 27 days on each occasion. However, the expected improvement in demand in this segment has changed the expectations of Japan's multinational for the Catalan plant, which closed 2009 with a production of 45,000 units against the 126,000 unit capacity of the installation after deal last summer cut 698 jobs.

Data from the Spanish patron of builders and sellers of vehicles, reflected in GANVAM ANFAC showed last November an increase of 12.6% over the same month of 2008 on sales of light commercial vehicles and vans, a figure that broke the negative trend of 22 consecutive months.

The NV200, built at the Barcelona plant, was awarded the International Van of the Year 2010, a factor that Nissan hopes will play in their favour to enhance sales.
