Barcelona Fashion Week (BFW) takes center stage from Saturday, September 17 to Friday September 23. As in past years, this week will feature fashion shows and events from the three main organizations in the city: Moda Barcelona with its ever-famous Pasarela Gaudi; Circuit showcasing innovative designers; and finally ModaFAD designed to promote the youngest generation through their PasaFAD and MerkaFAD.

This edition, however, begins a bit differently. Events from ModaFAD, usually reserved for the end of the week, will inaugurate the week. This year’s “KIT” starts on Saturday 17 at FAD, Plaza del Angels 5-6, followed by PasaFAD, the catwalk established for young designers trying to make their first entrance into the fashion arena, scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday at Fabrica Moritz, Ronda St. Antoni 39. The following day begins with the ever-popular MerkaFAD, an all day and night affair (open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.), where these same young fashion designers have the opportunity to sell their creations to the public and get a feel for what clients think of their work. This event also takes place at Fabrica Mortiz and is open to anyone interested in checking out what the newest generation of young designers is all about.

Following these events, the long-standing Pasarela Gaudi takes place from Monday the 19th to Thursday the 22nd at Fira of Barcelona, Pavelló Italia. Ever-present heavy hitters such as Antonio Miro, Victorio & Lucchino, Josep Font, Armand Basi, Lydia Delgado (CLICK FOR AN INTERVIEW), and Joaquim Verdu, to name a few, will lead the show. In addition, raising stars such as Alberto Tous and Cristobal Vidal continue to receive much desired attention. Two interesting shows worth mentioning are the emerging collective of designers show scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. and the Dirk Bikkemberg (CLICK FOR ARTICLE) show featuring Barça players at Camp Nou scheduled for Monday at 10 p.m.

Circuit, considered a pioneer in Spain and Europe for taking fashion to the limits by merging together different art and design disciplines rounds off the week’s events with their shows on Thursday and Friday. This year’s edition entitled, “ZERO” will take place at either the Sala Caixa Negra or Sala Caixa Blanca, located at Fira de Barcelona, Pavello 8. There will also be a showroom featuring these designers as well as others. This edition will highlight David Valls, El Delgado Buil, Snoopy, Cecilia Sörensen (CLICK FOR AN INTERVIEW), Bambi, with special international guest Marina Yee.  The week comes to a close with the already famous and hip Circuit Fashion Party at the Up&Down.

The public merely needs to remember that the Pasarela Gaudi is open only to professionals in the fashion field or members of the public with an invitation. Circuit and ModaFAD are open to everyone interested in learning about innovative fashion in Barcelona.
