He referred to the "ambitious and innovative" electronic sector, as evidence, he said in 2009 this increased by 35%, and stated that among the indicators it can afford to be optimistic, "the future of the book is the "vitality" of its production
Gonzalez-Sinde was answering questions asked by Torres Mora, from a Socialist Group in relation to the situation in the book sector in the context of the current economic crisis.
According to the Sinde, "the book sector, is an industry that stands between other sectors of our economy, and has absorbed the toughest stretch of the global crisis" and he also said there is growth in both formats in this sector.
He referred to the "ambitious and innovative" electronic sector, as evidence, he said in 2009 this increased by 35%, and stated that among the indicators it can afford to be optimistic, "the future of the book is the "vitality" of its production. Thus, in the past year, "in full global recession," a new book was published in Spain every 6 minutes, "surpassing all expectations", which resulted in the publication of 375 million books, "more than one million a day. "
It showed the "commercial strength" of the sector, and noted that, although there was a "slight decrease" in the export of booklets, Spain exports remained above the global figure, which fell 13. 6 on average.
"In our country the number is closer to 342 million euros," said the minister, who said that this was "once again, a positive balance," and was convinced that Spain will continue in the coming years to be the fourth power of the publishing world.
He said that although it is still early to count the exact number of sales at the counter in Spanish bookstores, "taking prudent data of the sector, it has risen between 5 and 8 percent," and added that the set of internal trade expectations "are identical" to those of 2008.
