Spanish travel agents predict an increase of 8% in bookings during the sales this summer.
The more than 200 partner agencies belong to UCAVE, worth an estimated 600 million euros and employ over 1,000 people directly.
La Unión Catalana de Travel Agents (UCAV) projcted a sales increase of 8% during this summer season compared to last year, according to a survey of its agencies.
According to UCAV in a context of uncertainty, such as now, it is common for people to wait until the last minute to book their vacation, 80% of the agencies questioned believed that the late sales will lead to a significant percentage of the final total. The potential increase of tour prices due to the VAT hike has made many decide not to purchase a family vacation.
Cruises are still one of the most sought after travel options, such as to the United States, which remains one of the favourite among consumers. Africa is also one of the fastest growing continents in tourism, with countries such as Cameroon, Senegal, Egypt and Tunisia.
65% of those polled by UCAVE explained that the profile of the trips requested by consumers who go to a travel agencies are for the ‘big trip’ compared with 35% who believe that short breaks predominate
