Minister Josep Huguet opens a section of the Camino de Santiago de Tarragona-Lleida.
In Tarragona the minister has visited the Espai TGN, the welcome centre for visitors and interpretation of the Tarraco Romana, which is located in the building of the former Bank of Spain.
The Minister for Innovation, Universities and Enterprise, Josep Huguet, opened Saturday in Espluga of Francolí (Tarragona) a stretch of the Camino de Santiago de Tarragona Lleida, through the great Cistercian Monasteries, Reales de Catalunya: Poblet, Santes Creus and Ballvona de les Monges.
With the opening of this route, for which the Government has allocated 85,000 euros, it supplements the long arm of the Camino de Santiago, which runs from the Port de la Selva (Girona) to Alcarràs (Lleida), a project framed in the Catalonia Tourism Strategic Plan 2005-2010, with the aim of recovering the Jacobean tradition of integrating Catalonia into the Camino de Santiago.
In this phase, 693 signs and maps were installed along the route which is 157 kilometres long, passing through seven counties and 28 municipalities in Catalonia. During the visit to the region of Tarragona, Huguet has signed three agreements for the promotion of tourism resources with the municipalities of Tarragona, l'Espluga of Francolí and Montblanc.
