The study, conducted among 1,000 people, found that 55% would have liked to learn more about the emotional aspects of sex, 44% about relationships in general, 41% about sexually transmitted diseases and 38% on sexual identity.
This is one of the conclusions to be drawn from the Fourth Phase of the Durex, Sexual Wellbeing report, the results confirm that greater knowledge provides greater sexual satisfaction. According to the survey, until now, sexual information provided in our country has focused on reproduction, puberty, menstruation and in the case of younger generations, also in the prevention of STDs and pregnancies, " but it has not addressed emotional issues, much needed to configure healthy sexual development, "according to the study authors.
Aspects such as affection, love or sexual orientation, have been absent from institutional education, it is more focused on risk prevention than in the emotional aspects that are of concern to young people and which could serve as a " hook" to instil responsible behaviour. Only 26% of Spanish respondents say they had received, as part of teaching at school, the emotional aspects of sex, including love, respect, sharing and giving pleasure to each other.
Of those respondents who believe they have received enough information about sex, 65% have reached sexual wellbeing and 56% are satisfied with their sex lives.
Despite its shortcomings, sex education in schools is emerging as a major source of information for 66% of Spanish students. However, 74% of Spanish respondents in this study recognizes that friendships have taught them what they know, and 56% cited books as their source of information.
