The list of ten finalists in Ballon d'Or 2009 the coveted prize was published today by French magazine France Football, a prize that, as the publication itself recognizes, will surely go to Lionel Messi as he is the "favourite".
Spain and England (Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney) are the only countries with two representatives in this prestigious global top ten, in addition to Lionel Messi, who starts as favourite to win the Ballon d'Or 2009 in the top ten finalists. The magazine released the names of the finalists for this award, among which also includes Real Madrid's Brazilian Kaka and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, "Golden Ball winner last year, and Barca’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The list is completed by the Cameroonian former Barcelona player Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba of Chelsea, and the Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney of Manchester United. The winner will be unveiled by ‘France Football’ on the morning of Tuesday, December 1st, and award ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 6th.
The magazine will unveil the winner on Tuesday, although several leaks suggest that the award podium will be occupied by Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi.
