10 of those arrested, in an operation against Georgian mafia, conducted jointly by the National Police and the Autonomous Police, were living in Catalonia and 14 in other parts of Spain.
A neighbour and owner of a flower shop near one of the apartments that was raided told Europa Press that "a woman and her husband were always driving expensive cars and lived in expensive housing" and wore designer clothing, very opulent. Despite this the woman acknowledged that the couple "were customers just like everyone else".
According to Europa Press there were 13 searches carried out in different parts of the city and its metropolitan area. This is the first time that the Autonomous Police have collaborated in an international operation led by the National Court. The Catalan police was coordinated by Police Criminal Investigation agents along with the Special Intervention Group (IEG) of the Mobile Brigade (BRIM) and Area Regional Operating Resources (Arro).
