Top spot used to be held by Girona
The report found that in 2005 different provinces showed extremely varying prices for basic consumer products, with Barcelona leading the most expensive locations - a spot that used to be held by Girona - while Badajoz stays at the bottom of the list.
The report also showed that economic development in the last few years to 2005 was closely tied to growth in the construction and services sectors, with Seville experiencing 3.94 percent growth, only behind Murcia (4.26 percent) and Madrid (4.10 percent).
“The ideal thing would be for construction to stop being the economic motor of this country,” said Pablo Alcaide, the author of the report. In fact, Alcaide described territorial growth in Spain as displaying “an odd pattern,” very much linked to the type of prevailing economic activity in each region.
