Lawyers ask judge to jail doctor for 2 years for death of patient stomach reduction in Barcelona.

In its indictment, to which Efe had access, the prosecution also asked that the doctor, Vincent D., pay compensation of 311,800 euros to the families of the deceased, which would be met by the insurance company and Clínica CIMA.

Prosecution lawyers ask judge to jail doctor for two years for the death of a patient after stomach reduction in Barcelona.

The prosecution asked for two years of imprisonment for reckless homicide for the surgeon who performed, in January 2008 at CIMA Clinic Barcelona, a stomach reduction operation on a 19-year-old who died of internal bleeding hours after the intervention.

In its indictment, to which Efe had access, the prosecution also asked that the doctor, Vincent D., pay compensation of 311,800 euros to the families of the deceased, which would be met by the insurance company and Clínica CIMA.

The deceased, Laura R., who suffered from morbid obesity, weighed 109 kilos and measured 1.58 - was offered, by the accused, stomach reduction surgery at the medical center CIMA. During the operation, according to the prosecutor, the defendant ripped or punctured the vena cava of the girl, which caused a hemorrhage, a few hours later it had reached a volume of two litres of blood .

According to the prosecution, the doctor "ignored the alarming postoperative data" that pointed to a hemorrhage and comments from the anaesthesiologist, who returned after the operation to the patient tubing and realized that she had hypotension, tachycardia and widespread coolness.

Blood tests performed on the patient confirmed the existence of massive bleeding, severe anemia, but even so, the surgeon "ignored the suggestions of the anaesthesiologist based on the appropriateness of the emergency laparotomy," added the letter of qualification.

Finally, the patient was operated again with the assistance of another surgeon, but died just eight hours after the original operation, because she was already "in an extremely grave state" the prosecutor said in his indictment.

The prosecution asked the surgeon to compensate the parents and siblings of the victim, a resident of Santa Perpetua de la Mogoda (Barcelona) and pay the 11,800 euros that the transaction cost and his medical disqualification for two years.

For its part, the private prosecution exercised by the victim's family claiming two and a half years in prison for the surgeon and the compensation of 336,800 euros, continues
