Madrid and Catalonia are the regions that offer top speeds to surf the Internet, according to a study by specialized web analysts ADSLZONE.net.

By contrast, the Canary Islands, Baleares, Asturias and Extremadura are regions where speeds are slower. Together with Madrid and Catalonia, the report also highlighted the services of Galicia and the Basque Country, with rates exceeding the national average, thanks to local cable operators R and Euskaltel.

The study thus concluded that on the one hand, communities with larger populations are those with faster and stable connections, and second, areas where there is a cable operator, not just ADSL, have better services.

The study shows that most operators comply with lower speeds parameters. For example, of 3 and 6 megs, the most common, the average real rate offered is 80 percent higher than promised.
