Spain, four die in storms this week, one while pleading, on the phone, with sister for help.

A man of 25 years has been found dead inside his vehicle, located at the bottom of an irrigation pond . His family warned t he police that the car he was driving was being dragged through the water in the municipality of Torre Pacheco.

A man of 25 years has been found dead inside his vehicle, located at the bottom of an irrigation pond . His family warned t he police that the car he was driving was being dragged through the water in the municipality of Torre Pacheco.

The Emergency Coordination Centre received the call around 13.00 hours when the vehicle, a green Seat Leon, was taken from the pond and soon after confirmed that the victim was inside.

The driver, a resident of Torre Pacheco, had telephoned his sister warning that rain water pulled his car off the road, when traveling on the RM-F22. The road had become a river due to the severe rain.

The victim's sister alerted the emergency services and they immediately began a search with the participation of Firemen, Civil Protection, Local Police and Guardia Civil. Eventually specialists divers joined the group along two helicopters. Later they discovered the sunken car.


This rain affecting much of the country and has resulted in twelve autonomous communities, Catalonia, Comunidad Valenciana, Baleares, Murcia, Andalucia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Aragon, Madrid, Navarra, La Rioja and Galicia on alert .

The first of those killed by the rainstorm was a man of 43 years, drowned when his car overturned trying to cross a stream in the town of El Torrico Toledo, Talavera de la Reina on the13th.

Three days later a couple died in the town of Jaen Valdeastillas, when their vehicle was swept away by flood water. These two victims were a man of 74 years, JGH and his wife, CRM, about the same age, residents of the capital Jaen.

According to the State Agency of Meteorology, depression that is affecting the peninsula, will continue to generate strong instability along the Bay of Biscay, in Navarra, within the southern half of the peninsula and in the Mediterranean area, Showers and thunderstorms are expected to be strong or very strong.
