Spain leads the ranking of the noisiest countries in the EU, causing of health disorders
A campaign launched by Pikolin aims to sensitize the population about the effects of neighbourhood noise has on health and its main objective is to make citizens aware that we are all part of the problem,
According to the World Health Organization, 76% of the world population is exposed to high noise levels above the permissible sound in one ear (65 dB). WHO also notes that 80 million Europeans endure a daily noise level unacceptable and that clearly affects their quality of life. According to experts, the noise produced by neighbours is a major cause of this problem.
A campaign launched by Pikolin aims to sensitize the population about the effects of neighbourhood noise has on health and its main objective is to make citizens aware that we are all part of the problem, yet, part of the solution is learning to respect the rest of our neighbours, to reduce noises that hinder sleep and thus contribute to reducing one of the main sources of noise pollution.
The new Awareness Campaign for Health Acoustics, launched for the second consecutive year, Pikolin wanted capture testimonies from real people in Barcelona and Sevillewho suffered constantly their noisy neighbours. They are the protagonists of the two documentaries that Pikolin has undertaken to bring citizens to a reality that we must change and to protect a right that nobody should be denied: the right to rest and sleep in silence.
The ear is one of the most sensitive organs of the human body and exposure to high noise levels, affects the body causing harmful physiological effects and negatively impacts on the quality of life, and what is more important, our health. If we do not have adequate rest, sleep deprivation can cause serious consequences for our mental health and work performance. For adults, the psychological disorders are, sleep disruption, fatigue, stress, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, risk of EEG abnormalities and increased incidence of stomach ulcers.
According to the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros de Telecomunicaciones, 29.63% of Spanish have complaints of noise generated by their neighbours. This is also a relative proportion, as there are thousands of unreported cases, because of the legal vacuum that exists in our country.
Also, not all regional governments record the same noise level. The National Institute of Statistics, said that Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha and Galicia are the Autonomous Communities that suffer less discomfort from their neighbours, while Madrid, Andalusia and Aragon are the regions where most complaints are received.
