Spain opens war crimes case against Israel

The High Court in Spain is starting a war-crimes investigation into a former Israeli defense minister and six of his military officials

IRNA -- Binyamin Ben-Eliezer was in charge in 2002 when Israel bombed a building in the Gaza Strip killing 14 civilians and a Hamas commander.

The case was brought by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, which is based in Gaza, on behalf of the civilian families of those killed in the attack.

The commander who was killed, Salah Shehada, was leader of the Hamas military wing.

His death is not part of the Spanish investigation.
