he general secretary of Interior said that two days after the snowstorm French authorities have still not cleared a section of road that hinders the smooth flow of trucks.
The general secretary of the Interior, Joan Boada, today blamed the French authorities for the closure of the border with Jonquera (Girona), which still has nearly 20 miles of queues, which has forced Spanish authorities to hold about 5,000 trucks in service areas in Catalonia, Huesca, and Castellón.
At a press conference, Boada has stressed that this is "entirely attributable" to the French authorities, that two days after the storm have not been able to clean a 300 metre downhill stretch of road, which is full of snow and ice, which hinders the movement of trucks. This situation, which yesterday led to queues of up to 50 miles to get to La Jonquera, once again led to the holding of trucks in service areas that were available, such as in Montmelo (Barcelona).
For now, 5,000 trucks are stationed in service areas, although this figure is increasing, according to Boada. This measure is also taking place in Huesca, and Castellón to prevent a total collapse of the highway system in the area. Boada has stressed that efforts have been made "at the highest level" with the French authorities, even with the mediation of the central government, asking them to react quickly to solve the problem.
Yesterday, the minister of Interior i Institutional Relations, Joan Saura, defended the administration of the Government during the snowstorm that left thousands of Catalans stuck in their cars or on railways for hours.
