Spain’s new austere budget will affect dozens of infrastructure improvements’ say’s Jose Blanco

I would prefer to wait for a highway, rather than a student wait for the scholarship" he said, referring to current government priorities in public spending

Spain’s new austere budget will affect dozens of infrastructure improvements’ according to Jose Blanco

The Strategic Infrastructure and Transport plan 2005-2020 "can not continue" according to the austerity program recently approved by the Government, announced the head of the department, Jose Blanco.

The minister explained that the Development Plan will have to be "updated, and it is important to reform only what is absolutely necessary." "It will not be able to do it all simultaneously, and all that is raised in the PEIT is not essential," he told the full Congress. "Probably all the autonomous communities feel a particular grievance, but no is not the time to play the wrongs, at this time we all must lend a hand", said the minister.

"I would prefer to wait for a highway, rather than a student wait for the scholarship" he said, referring to current government priorities in public spending.

The TISP was launched in 2005 with a total investment of 250,000 million euros in infrastructure spending until 2020 to, among other objectives, build 9,000 new miles of TGV and 6,000 kilometres of high-capacity roads.

Still, Blanco pledged to "do more with less," that the adjustment "will have little impact priority projects, among which included the AVE and the rest of the railroad, as the portfolio of public work contract pending run will continue in the current environment of 30,000 million.

To do so, he announced the department will present its extraordinary investment of 15,000 million euros in collaboration with the private sector, the EIB and the ICO and the launching of a battery of measures to review every euro to be spent by the Ministry.

In parallel, the Ministry shall provide itself with its own austerity plan to review all its spending policies, "streamline its structure and of the subsidiaries, the number of senior positions and salary levels. Practicing what we preach" he said.
