Nearly 12,000 teachers registered for 4,000 teaching places in Catalunya
A total of 11,929 people have signed up for 3990 teaching places offered by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2010.
According to a statement, the majority of places offered are for primary school teachers (1500) and junior school (1000), vacancies for which most have applied. However, the Government also calls for teachers of English (400), PE (400), Music (340), Therapeutic Pedagogy (300) and Hearing and Language (50).
Most enrolees have done so through the Education Consortium of Barcelona (2.260), Tarragona (1,569), Girona (1,295) and Vallès Occidental (1,252), although there are candidates.
The interviews, and tests are being held between 17 April and 6 June, to ascertain their knowledge of both official languages in Catalunya through written tests.
One of the objectives of the Generalitat is to reduce the proportion of temporary teachers year after year.
